Biography

Dr. Shuling Yang received her Ph.D. in Educational Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her research focuses on family literacy, literacy teacher education, and multicultural education. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy at UMBC. Dr. Yang is the recipient of NCTE’s 2023 ELATE research award and the Teacher Education Research Grant from the Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers. In 2021, Dr. Yang was awarded an AERA Division C Equity grant and an NCTE Research Foundation grant. She is also a recipient of the 2021 NCTE Early Career Educator of Color Leadership Award. Dr. Yang has published her research in the Bilingual Research Journal, Journal of Digital Learning in Teacher Education, Journal of Adult and Adolescent Literacy, and Online Learning Journal, and has presented at numerous international and national conferences on education and literacy. Dr. Yang served as Chair of the Awards & Grants Committee at the International Literacy Association from 2022 to 2024. She won the 2024 Early Career Reviewer Award from the Bilingual Research Journal and is on the editorial board of the Reading Horizon Journal and the Journal of Literacy and Urban Schools.
