If you have questions about SL&L, please check out our top FAQs below. If you have any additional questions, concerns, or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at education@umbc.edu.
Student Learning & Licensure (SL&L) is an Educational Assessment System where students upload coursework to be evaluated against program standards that are set by professional teaching accreditation agencies. In addition, students will create necessary applications and complete internship (field experience) documents within SL&L.
Throughout your time in the Department of Education, you will use SL&L to upload key assessments, submit applications, and finally create and submit a portfolio highlighting your work in addition to completing your edTPA submission. SL&L will also be used by your mentor teacher and supervisor to evaluate your progress during your student teaching internship.
Student can access Student Learning & Licensure (SL&L) directly at sll.watermarkinsights.com. The first time that you access and log in to the system, you will need to reset your password. Click the “Forgot Password” link at the bottom of the login screen and enter your UMBC email address. Then the system will send a password reset link to your email. Reset your password with the link provided in your email and then log in with your new credentials. Once you have set up this initial password you will continue to use it for subsequent logons to the system.
Note: Please note that students will not be able to login and access the system prior to the start of the Fall 2025 semester. Student accounts will be accessible shortly after the semester’s schedule adjustment deadline, unless a student is otherwise notified.
Watermark has configured SL&L Single Sign-On (SSO) for faculty member logins. If you are faculty member, login at https://login.watermarkinsights.com/connect/universityofmarylandbaltimorecounty using your current UMBC credentials to sign in.
When I attempt to reset my password, I never get an email. What should I do?
If you’re having trouble logging in to SL&L, make sure you have an active account and are using the correct email address associated with your SL&L account. If you’re not sure you have an active account, please email education@umbc.edu for assistance. If you have an active account and are still not receiving the reset email, please make sure to check your spam/junk mail folders for the email. (Faculty: please note that this does not apply for faculty, as faculty members have SSO and use their UMBC login credentials to log in, so any password resets would need to be done within the UMBC system.)
For Students: If you are a student and you receive this error it means you are logging in through your institution’s single sign-on for faculty and administrators only. Please go to sll.watermarkinsights.com and sign in with your school email address.
For admin and faculty: contact your institution’s Watermark administrator for further assistance at education@umbc.edu.
No, undergraduate students are no longer required to submit an admission application on SL&L to be formally admitted into the program. To be formally admitted into the program please contact your Education advisor/program director to ensure that you meet the requirements to be formally admitted into the program. Once you get approval, you will then need to submit a change of major form to the Registrar’s Office declaring your certificate program following the instructions provided on their website- https://registrar.umbc.edu/forms/records-updaterequest-forms/. Ensure that your form is also signed by your Education advisor/program director, as the form will not be processed by the Registrar’s Office without their signature. Please be sure to cc your Education advisor/program director and the Department’s Assessment Coordinator (Deborah Fashole-Luke) on the form when you submit it to the Registrar’s Office.
Do I have to complete an internship application on SL&L?
